Engagement calendar

When assurance work lands on the year

A seasonal view of planning kickoffs, inventory observation weeks, and report issuance — so finance teams can reserve capacity before the close compresses.

Desk calendar beside a notebook for scheduling fieldwork

This calendar is guidance, not a booking engine. Actual dates are confirmed after scoping. March and September remain the busiest months for statutory financial auditing in Japan.

January – February

Planning & document lists

Scoping calls for March year-ends, materiality discussions, and circulation of request lists. Ideal time for internal control readiness reviews before the rush.

March

Peak fieldwork

Inventory observations, substantive testing, and cut-off work for 31 March reporters. Capacity is limited; deposits may be required to hold observation days.

April – May

Reporting close-out

Clearance of review notes, subsequent events work, and issuance of auditor’s reports ahead of lender and filing deadlines.

June – August

Interim & readiness

Interim testing, first-year opening balance work, and agreed-upon procedures that do not need year-end cut-off evidence.

September

Second peak

Fieldwork for September year-ends and catch-up inventory counts. Travel across western Japan is scheduled earlier in summer.

October – December

Rollover planning

Post-mortem meetings, management letter follow-ups, and calendar holds for the next March cycle. New clients should inquire now for spring capacity.
